Quick answer: Yes. Laser hair removal is a safe, effective and increasingly popular part of transitioning for trans, non-binary and gender-diverse patients, particularly for removing facial and body hair as part of feminising HRT. At MOR Clinic in Penryn we treat clients from across Falmouth, Truro and the wider Cornwall area using the Motus AY medical-grade laser, in a private, medical setting led by a registered nurse.

We’re asked some version of the same question most weeks: “Can I get laser hair removal here, and will I be treated properly?” This guide answers that honestly, using the same pricing and treatment plans we use in clinic every day.

Is laser hair removal suitable for transgender and non-binary patients?

Yes. Laser hair removal is one of the most requested treatments among our transgender and non-binary clients, most often for the face, neck and chest as part of feminising transition, though we treat any area for any client regardless of how they identify. We offer packages covering a single area right through to the whole body, and every plan starts with a proper consultation rather than a generic package.

Which areas do trans patients usually treat first?

There’s no fixed order, but for feminising hair removal, the areas we’re asked about most are:

  • Upper lip – £43
  • Chin – £48
  • Upper lip and chin combined – £70
  • Side of face – £50
  • Full face – £97
  • Neck – £70
  • Chest – £91
  • Underarms – £70

Every new client, regardless of area, starts with a £10 patch test and consultation, so we can check how your hair and skin respond before booking a full course.

How does hormone therapy affect laser hair removal?

This is one of the most useful questions to raise at your consultation, and one that’s specific to transitioning patients. Feminising hormone therapy (oestrogen and anti-androgens) can gradually thin body and facial hair over time, which sometimes means fewer sessions are needed for full effect, but it can also change hair colour and texture partway through a course. Laser targets pigment in the hair, so very fine, light or white hair responds less well, and some clients combine laser with electrolysis for those finer hairs later in transition. Tell us where you are in your hormone journey at consultation so we can plan realistically rather than guess.

How many sessions will I need?

As with any client, hair grows in cycles, so one session is never enough. Most people need a minimum course of 6 sessions, spaced around 4-6 weeks apart, with denser or coarser areas such as the chin or chest sometimes benefiting from 8. Package pricing is available for courses of 6 or 8 sessions across any area, or combined – ask us for a written quote at your consultation so you know the full cost of your course upfront.

Does it hurt, and will I be treated with respect?

Physically, most clients describe it as a warm flick or elastic-band snap, and our Motus AY’s cooling handpiece is used for your first two sessions to keep things as comfortable as possible before moving to the standard laser. Just as importantly: MOR is a medical clinic run by a registered nurse, not a walk-in beauty salon. You’ll be treated by name, asked how you’d like to be addressed, and given the same honest, unhurried consultation as every other client. No judgement, no awkward questions you haven’t invited.

What does it cost?

Real prices, not estimates. Below are our current single-session prices for the areas most relevant to transitioning patients (the full price list and body areas are on our Laser Hair Removal treatment page):

  • Patch test + consultation – £10
  • Upper lip – £43
  • Chin – £48
  • Side of face – £50
  • Upper lip and chin – £70
  • Neck – £70
  • Underarms – £70
  • Full face – £97
  • Chest – £91
  • Half back – £91
  • Full back – £140
  • Underarms, bikini and legs (combined package) – £263

Combining areas into one visit is usually better value than booking separately, and we’ll always put together a realistic, itemised plan for your specific goals rather than a generic quote.

Why choose MOR Clinic in Penryn?

We’re a medical clinic, not a beauty salon, founded and led by Clare Smit, a registered nurse with a background in front-line healthcare. We use the Motus AY, a medical-grade laser that’s safe and effective across all skin tones, including darker skin that older laser technology couldn’t always treat safely. We see clients travelling in from Falmouth, Truro and across Cornwall for exactly this reason: a discreet, professional setting where the focus is on getting your results right, not on making assumptions about why you’re here.

Booking your consultation

If you’re local to Penryn, Falmouth or Truro and thinking about laser hair removal as part of your transition, the best next step is a patch test and consultation – no commitment, no referral needed, just an honest assessment of what’s realistic for you and what it will cost. Call us on 01326 567532, email hello@morclinic.co.uk, or book online.

If hair removal is required ahead of a specific gender-affirming procedure, let us know at your consultation. We’re happy to keep records of your sessions, but always check the exact certification requirements with your surgical team or gender clinic first.
